Craft Show

My first ever craft show was on Saturday May 19th. It was a small outdoor show combined with a salon's cut-a-thon to help raise money to benefit a cancer non profit. The fee was minimal with additional requirements to donate 10% of sales and also to donate a baked good for the bake sale so I figured it was a good first show- Minimal cost but an opportunity to set up a display etc. I had just over a month to prepare but coupled with working two jobs and my March for Babies stuff I didn't get quite as much done as I wanted. I did make plenty of tutu's in a variety of colors but I didn't get very many flower clips done and I had hoped to add in a couple other items but just ran out of time.

I used my brand new Inkadinkado alphabet stamps and $1 ink pads to finish my color card and to make some signs.

I have seen a couple of displays around the internet using luggage.  I happened to find a piece that is in perfect condition and used it in my display.  I tied some twine around the top and used mini safety pins to hang several tutus up.  I have picked up a second piece of luggage but it needs some TLC before I can use it but for 30 cents at a garage sale I couldn't pass it up!

I used a mug tree to display some of my (few) clips by stretching a headband between the pegs and clipping three flowers to each side.  I also clipped a couple flowers to the twine clothesline.

The day started off just slightly breezy but soon some gusts had my tutus flying away.  So I rearranged my display using a basket I had brought just in case and making more of a twine clothesline.

I also used some mini clothespins to pin some of the tutus right to the table.

I was pretty happy with the display.  Although, there are definitely a few things I'd like to fine tune, plus a few more items I'd like to make. I was also happy that I had a nice neighbor next to me on one side (an empty space on the other) who was nice to chat with.  I certainly didn't have a spectacular day sales wise but I'm considering it a learning experience and hopefully the next one will be better!

One More Baby Shower Tutu

A dear friend of mine has as sister who is having a baby girl, due in May.  As soon as I heard she was having a girl, I knew I had to make her a tutu.  My friend told me her sister was into to orange and green and then the shower invite said her theme was Monkeys.

I already had green on hand and also the green waistband.

The flower is on an ribbon lined clip so that it can also be worn directly in the hair if desired.

I love making homemade burp rags.  But to be completely honest, I haven't been 100% happy with the ones I've made for the last two recipients.  I even skipped it for the most recent shower gift before this.  I've been putting some batting in them to add some extra absorption and I have not been sewing the finished edges (yes this has a technical name, but I'm blanking right now and it's midnight!) because I didn't feel confident enough in my sewing abilities...  :)  But I JoAnn had a good sale on "comfy fabrics" so I picked up some of the soft minky brown material and this super cute monkey print.  So I tried one out.  Overall I was happy enough to give it as a gift.  Definitely had some flaws but I think sometimes I'm my own worst critic.

I'm seriously in love with making these tutus.  As a matter of fact, outside of giving several of them away as baby shower gifts, I've been working on getting an Etsy shop up and running and my first items (the only things I've had time to work on lately) will be these tutus.  My Etsy shop is not quite completely ready to go, but I've still sold 6 of these already just to people I know.  I'm really excited about them doing so well already because we are taking a big step in our house and reverting back to me (mostly) staying home.  I'm leaving my 25 hour a week M-F job for one that will likely be less than half those hours most weeks.  So I'm definitely excited to think that my craft business might at least keep me crafting!

Baby Shower Gifts 2012: #3

So many babies this year! I missed out on this friends shower nearly a month ago because I was sick, and things have been pretty busy around here lately but last night we were finally able to stop by and drop off her baby gift. Since she's having a girl I got to give away another Tutu and some flower clips/headband.

I just love these tutu's and flowers. I have so much fun making them!

Baby Shower Gifts 2012: Take Two

This past Sunday I attended my second baby shower of the year already. I have a third one in a week and a half (which I haven't hardly started crafting for!) and a good handful of other friends who are pregnant and I would love to make a little something for. Whew. But I guess it means a lot of fun crafting time!

So this friend from work is into the whole Punk Rock Princess look. She loves the skulls w/ bows. But I couldn't bring myself to craft/sew anything with skulls for a little girl so I had to do the hot pink/black look.

I ended up finding some cute punk rock girly flannel that didn't have skulls and turned it into a couple of cute burp rags.

I just cut out two matching pieces of the fabric & some batting, matched up wrong sides and sewed around the edges.  I clipped the corners and then turned it inside out.  I also added my handmade just for you tags!

These weren't the only burp cloths she got that were homemade and I decided after seeing the others, I really need to topstitch to give it a nicer finish.

I also was really excited to make some flower headbands. I have a boy but I just love making flower headbands so it's awesome to have a reason to make some.....
